Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team will continue their 2010 season as on Monday the squad was awarded an at large berth into the NCAA Regionals, the program's 12th overall appearance and first since 2007.
The NCAA Selection committee has sent the Ragin' Cajuns (37-20), as the three seed, to the Austin Regional facing Rice (38-21), who received the two seed as an at large bid out of Conference USA. Also in the Austin Regional will be host Texas (one seed) and Rider (four seed).
The Ragin' Cajuns enter the Austin Regional coming off a strong second half in which the squad won 23 of its final 27 games. In that stretch UL won 17 of its final 18 Sun Belt games to vault from 4-8 and ninth place to 21-9 and a regular season title.
Louisiana begins play in the Austin Regional on Friday, June 4 at 1 p.m., against Rice at Disch-Falk Field in Austin, Texas. Host-Texas (46-11) and Rider (36-21) meet at 6:30 p.m., on Friday.
If the Cajuns win they play Saturday, June 5 at 6:30 p.m. A loss would put the Cajuns into a 1 p.m., elimination game on Saturday.
The Ragin' Cajuns are making their second NCAA Regionals appearance at Disch-Falk Field in Austin. In 1992 as a first-year Sun Belt member the Cajuns were sent to Austin.
For head coach Tony Robichaux, it will be his eighth time leading Louisiana into the NCAA Regionals.
Louisiana is one of three Sun Belt schools appearing in the NCAA Regionals. They join fellow SBC co-champion Florida Atlantic (at large) and conference tournament winner FIU (automatic bid).
Tickets may be purchased starting Tuesday. Prices for All-Session packages are $60 (Reserved) and $45 (General Admission). Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-982-2386 or visiting TexasBoxOffice.com. If available, individual game tickets will go on sale Friday morning.
