Thread: RPI Friday 5/28/2010 (through yesterday's games)

  1. UL Baseball RPI Friday 5/28/2010 (through yesterday's games)

The Cajuns exited the Sun Belt Tournament with an Adjusted RPI of .5631 (ranked #44) and a Base RPI of .5619 (ranked #40). The Cajuns will retain their bonus as Northwestern State is finished in the SLC Tournament and the Demons are comfortably in the Base RPI Top 75 (#69 Base RPI position). This also ensures a much needed boost to the Cajun W/L record vs. the Base RPI Top 75.

Unfortunately, Arkansas State has moved into the Base RPI Top 100 with its two wins in the conference tournament. At #86, this adds a 1-3 record vs. the Base RPI Top 100 for the Cajuns ... giving the Cajuns a losing record vs. the Base RPI Top 100.

Southeastern Louisiana has moved just back inside the Base RPI Top 50 at #49. This adds two losses (0-2) to the Cajuns' record vs. the Base RPI Top 50.

Finally, Southern Mississippi has fallen to #74 in the Base RPI. The Cajuns went 1-2 vs. USM.

In addition to the above, if you look at the teams clustered around Louisiana in the RPI rankings, desired results for the remainder of the weekend become obvious.

    Records vs. Base RPI:
    vs. Top 75 14-13
    vs. Top 50 3-6
    vs. Top 100 15-17
    vs. Top 25 0-0

    Some other important numbers:
    Non-Conference RPI (.5588, #45)
    Road RPI (.5466, #44)
Strength of Schedule (SOS) (.5328, #64)

Laying two big eggs in our last chance to impact our RPI... we surely didn't do ourselves any favors. We are definitely a three seed now, but the Lady Cajuns were a 3 seed and we know how that turned out.

    Hey Brian quick question:

Has there ever been a team that hosted a regional with a losing record in the conference regular season and that won its conference tournament as the final seed in?

Just wondering. Ya know, for ____s and giggles.

Yes, I know where you are going.

The answer is no. However, there has been one team that has hosted a regional that had a .500 record. Trivia question for everyone ... who is that team and in what year did this occur?

Note that Arizona finished .500 in conference in 2008 and was a #1 seed, but did not host a regional (sent to Ann Arbor, Michigan).

By the way I asked because I had a heated argument with my parain last night who was stubbornly taking off next weekend to go to baton rouge for the regional he is sure will be there. I tried to tell him but you know how the average lsu fan is. Thick as a brick. But you know it's family. I'll relay that info Brian thanks again.

Were a lock. You don't win the sun belt regular season title and get left out. Just like the last team into the sec tourney. Lead pipe lock of the week!!!!

Bingo. The Aggies finished 13-13 in conference for a 5th place finish in the Big XII (2007). Of course, they won the Big XII Tournament losing their first game to Nebraska but then swept the next three games (thanks to the pool play format). However, the biggest feather in their cap was their RPI rank of 7 at selection time!
