MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Facing a six-run deficit after three innings against Troy, Middle Tennessee coach Steve Peterson sent Chad Edwards home late Wednesday night.
The idea was for Edwards to get a good night's rest so he would be ready the next day for the third-seeded Blue Raiders, who got run-ruled by Troy in a game that ended at 2 a.m. Thursday.
On Thursday afternoon, a well-rested Edwards tossed a six-hit shutout to send second-seeded UL home early with a 3-0 loss on the second day of the Sun Belt Conference tournament at MTSU's Reese Smith Field.
