Former Governor Kathleen Blanco is criticizing the oil spill response. In an interview with KATC, Blanco says local, state and federal governments were slow to act.

"That was the main lesson that I learned from Katrina, you don't wait, if we had waited, we would have lost more lives," Blanco said.

Some 1,800 lives were lost in Hurricane Katrina and Blanco herself was criticized by some by not doing enough.

"There are things that happened that are bigger than all of us, lots of people had a field day on my back."

Blanco says she would like to see a more unified response from local, state and federal governments to keep oil off our shores.
