Ragin' Cajuns enjoy balanced attack
LOUISIANA La. — One of the most noteworthy aspects of Louisiana’s men’s basketball victory at Florida International last Saturday was the fact that Antoine Landry scored 3 points.
The senior from New Orleans usually has that in the first few minutes of play, normally with an artful 3-point bomb from beyond the key, but at FIU Landry didn’t score until two minutes remained in the contest.
There are teams that struggle when their leading scorer endures such a night, but with coach Jessie Evans’ squad opponents can’t count on that to bail them out.
Instead, the Ragin’ Cajuns drilled the Golden Panthers 78-58 to improve to 9-5 overall and a first-place 4-1 in the Sun Belt Conference Western Division.
The Cajuns, who have won three in a row and five of their last six, have six players scoring in double figures.
Landry leads the way at 14.1 points per game, but Brad Boyd is right behind at 13.3 and that pair is followed by Brian Hamilton (11.4), Laurie Bridges (11.3), Cedric Williams (10.4) and newcomer Orien Greene (10.3 in three games).
“We’re going to get the ball to the open man,” Evans said. “That’s why Orien fits in so well with the team. When he’s in the game, he’s looking to get the ball to his teammates.
