BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Attending a cockfight could get a person
sent to jail, if Gov. Bobby Jindal agrees to a bill that is headed
to his desk.
The House gave final passage to the measure with a 73-13 vote
Wednesday.
Republican Sen. Danny Martiny, of Kenner, says he sponsored the
proposal because cockfights are still held in Louisiana even though
the Legislature banned the rooster fights in 2008.
Martiny's bill would create the crime of "participation in
cockfighting."
Anyone convicted of attending a cockfight, betting on a
cockfight or paying admission to any place where people can watch
or wager on a cockfight would face up to six months in jail and up
to a $500 fine.
