BATON ROUGE - Louisiana's Lady Cajuns were unable to open a new season on a positive note, succumbing to the No. 49-ranked Louisiana State Tigers 7-0 Sunday here at W.T. "Dub" Robinson Stadium.

Action was suspended Saturday afternoon due to heavy rain.

UL (0-1) started four newcomers in its lineup Sunday. Freshmen Celine VanWeydeveld, Cecilia Varela, Kimmie Lyles and Sophie Cerbon all lost their debut matches for the Cajuns.

VanWeydeveld lost to Amanda Mang 6-1, 6-4. Marina Chiarelli defeated Varela in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

Lyles, a Shreveport native, dropped her first set 6-1 to Daysi Espinal, but rallied hard in the second set, only to fall 7-5. Cerbon fell to Lauren Seaman 6-2, 6-0.

Louisiana State (2-0) swept all three doubles matches to secure the victory.

Louisiana will be in action Feb. 6 when they return to Baton Rouge to face Southern University in a 1 p.m. match.
