New changes are coming to N.P Moss middle. Starting in fall the school will keep the same name but change it's curriculum. The new program is called S.T.E.M. it stands for science, technology, engineering and math. "S.T.E.M is a national program that has shown lots of success with students," said school of choice Director, Burnell Lejeune. Lejeune calls it research proven curriculum.
All subjects taught at N.P. Moss will be based on those four subjects; however the necessary ones aren't left out, "Concepts are taught in all of the subjects whether its social studies or English, the basic curriculum that students need to get to high school is still there," said Lejeune.
The curriculum breaks away from traditional book work and allows students to work hands on. "It builds enrichment activities for those students that are strong in those by taking it to the next level, problem solving and critical thinking."
The school will remain a middle school available for kids who live in the school zone but it's also a school of choice. Any student in Lafayette Parish can apply to attend. Lejeune says it will benefit the students by not only improving their stem skills but also by creating career goals.
Information about the STEM academy application will be up at this website in two weeks.
