PRESS RELEASE-Last night, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash on LA 333 north of Intracostal City that claimed the life of an Abbeville man.
According to investigating troopers, on May 24, 2010, at about 5:21 p.m., a 1997 Chevrolet truck driven by 44-year-old Sinh Nguyen of Abbeville, LA, was traveling north on LA 333. Nguyen failed to negotiate a left curve and ran off the right side of the road. Nguyen overcorrected, rotated clockwise, and entered a ditch. Nguyen's vehicle struck a culvert and overturned. Nguyen was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. When he arrived at the hospital, Nguyen was pronounced dead.
Routine toxicology samples were obtained from Nguyen. The samples were sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab and the results are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
This is the 30th fatal crash and the 33rd fatality in the Troop I area in 2010. Troopers remind all persons traveling in a motor vehicle that you must wear your seatbelt. So far this year Troop I has investigated 19 fatal crashes with unrestrained occupants. Wearing your seatbelt will greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes.
