Arlo Elkins and Bret Garnett were inducted into the South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame on Dec. 6 during a ceremony on Hilton Head Island.

Bret Garnett had an outstanding junior career in Columbia and, most notably, won 74 consecutive matches at Irmo High School over a period of three years. He won three individual state high school championships and was named the South Carolina Tennis Association player of the year as a 17 year old.

Garnett attended the University of Louisiana, where he was named All-America three consecutive years. He was ranked No. 1 in the United States in intercollegiate doubles in 1987-88.

Garnett turned professional in August 1988, eventually reaching 203 in the singles rankings. His top victory as a pro was against Patrick Rafter in the 1994 U.S. Open.

Currently, Garnett is active in tennis community work, which includes speaking at junior events and participating in charity tournaments. He is the head pro and director of tennis at Lake Hickory Country Club in Hickory, N.C.
