He ended up using it relentlessly (which was key to its success) but he did it without official university endorsement.

"Coach" Faulkinberry has a different story but he definitely jumped on board first then Track & Field.
Ragin Cajuns (without a g) was suggested by Faulkinberry because that's how his Cajun players were saying it no "g" and Bob Henderson jumped on the idea. He said it was his idea to use it the football team.
