LOUISIANA La. — To put the progress made by the University of Louisiana’s 2003-2004 Lady Cajuns basketball team in perspective, consider the program’s history.

The Lady Cajuns began the season with a woeful 29-145 record in Sun Belt Conference competition since entering the league in 1991-1992.

Never in 11 previous tries has the school gotten beyond the first round of the conference tournament, losing by an average of 83.5-47.3 points per contest.

Cajun women have never been 2-1 in league action, as they are this year.

Never was that emergence more evident than last in last Saturday’s home game against the New Orleans Privateers in the Cajundome.

UNO coach Joey Favaloro strolled into the ’Dome with a 42-5 career record against UL, including scores of 65-52 and 63-47 last season, and had no reason to expect any different.

But by halftime, it was clear this is a new generation of Cajun women. Favaloro was hit with a technical foul 41 seconds from halftime due to his frustration with the proceedings.

UL led the game 38-23 at the break and increased its advantage down the stretch for an impressive 68-49 triumph to improve to 8-6 on the season.
