Thread: PRIME: Michael Desormeaux

Default Re: How many series did Desormeaux play at QB

I don't know what has been wrong with Babb this year. He has "happy" feet in the pocket and in very indecisive when he drops back to throw.

Whatever the reason, it really doesn't matter. I hate to see this happen to him as a senior becasue he has been a big part of rebuilding this program and he seems to be a really good kid. He is such a good athlete that we probably could have used him on defense or as a third wide out.

  2. UL Football Desormeaux can play almost anything asked

Mentally, it was tough, with his UL football team losing its third straight game.

Physically, though, Saturday was an easy day for Michael Desormeaux.

The Cajuns' man of many positions didn't take any snaps on defense against North Texas, so his duties were limited to wide receiver and two different special teams.

That's a virtual breather for the former Catholic-New Iberia standout, who has seen time at two offensive positions, as a defensive back and on four different special teams groups this year.

"It's difficult sometimes, but it's so much fun," Desormeaux said. "As a real football fan, nothing is more fun than to have an impact on the game in so many different ways."

His impact expanded Saturday during the 16-7 loss to the Mean Green, when he had the first two receptions of his career.

  6. UL Football Desormeaux one of a new breed in college QBs

The spread offense, in all of its incarnations, is normally thought of as a boon to throwing football teams. But it also creates opportunities for quarterbacks to become running factors, opportunities that UL's squad has used with success.

Cajun quarterback Michael Desormeaux ranks 35th nationally in rushing and is the second-leading rusher in the Sun Belt Conference entering this weekend's league contest at Middle Tennessee. He is also the rushing leader among Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly I-A) quarterbacks nationally.

He's not alone, though. Ten different quarterbacks are ranked among the nation's top 100 rushers, including some well-known names - Heisman Trophy candidates Tim Tebow of Florida and Dennis Dixon of Oregon, Patrick White of West Virginia, option specialist Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada of Navy, and freshman Dwight Dasher of this week's opponent Middle Tennessee.

  7. UL Football Dan McDonald's CajunNotes: Landmarks from the game

Cajun quarterback Michael Desormeaux passed a couple of milestones during Saturday's game, one putting him into the NCAA record book.

His 86-yard burst midway through the second quarter put him over 1,000 rushing yards this season, making him the 24th quarterback in Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly I-A) history to reach that mark. Those 24 players have hit that mark a total of 30 times, with Vince Young of Texas (2004-05), Beau Morgan of Air Force (1995-96), Chris McCoy of Navy (1996-97), Brad Smith of Missouri (2003, 2005), Dee Davis of Air Force (1987, 1989) and Stacey Robinson of Northern Illinois (1989-90) each doing it twice.

Former UL standout Brian Mitchell is one of those 24, having rushed for a school record 1,311 yards in 1989. At the time, that was the third-highest single season quarterback-rush total in history, and it still ranks seventh.

Desormeaux finished the night with 1,105 season rush yards, the 23rd most in NCAA history by a quarterback, with two games left.

    Long distance

Desormeaux's 86-yard run was also the second-longest rushing play in UL history and tied the fourth-longest play from scrimmage. Ironically, the longest run, a 90-yarder by Reggie Dupre at Southeastern Louisiana in 1971, was also on the road and was also not a touchdown.

The only other longer scrimmage plays in UL history were a 95-yard pass from Randy Fontenot to Harold Porter against Chattanooga in 1974 and a 92-yard pass from Mitchell to Troy Tauriac against Central Michigan in 1989.

Anybody know what the common denominator is between Des & Troy Tauriac?

The only person I ever saw that was faster than Troy was his brother. Unbelievable talent, his career was plagued by injuries. I believe he was the fastest kid in the country coming out of high school. Great guy and talks fondly about his time at UL.

For the “Where are they now?” fans: Troy is living in Idaho, married, and working as a regional Sales Manager for a Pharmaceuticals Company.

Answer: Both are Alumni of Catholic High in New Iberia.

Not Sure about Troy, but Porter was the fastest I ever saw. He was a world-class sprinter who competed internationally for the USA. I was there for that 92 yarder against Chattanooga. It was fast!

I remember Tauriac. I am pleased that he has fond memories of USL. It would be great if these guys could somehow be recognized whenever they come back for a game...any game, football, basketball, baseball, Doesnt matter.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, in attdce tonight is Troy Tauriac and his wfe and children. Troy played football at then USL from ?? to ??. Lets give them a round of applause. Something simple, just to show appreciation.

I ran distance at CHS NI when Tauriac was there.....lord have mercy he was fast. He won a national indoor race his senior year of high school. Stokley didn't use him enough...he got hurt in the same game (I think) that he caught the long pass and it's like he never got on the field again once he came back. I don't know if Stokley didn't like him running track also, or what.

He used to get the baton in the 440 yard relay in high school and the other guys would be coming out of the last turn already, he'd catch em every time. Damn that was fun to watch.

  13. UL Football Desormeaux questionable for FIU game

The big question surrounding the UL football team's preparation for Saturday's game at Florida International continues, and may not be fully answered until kickoff time.

Cajun quarterback Michael Desormeaux, who took a physical pounding as part of a 175-yard rushing effort last weekend in UL's 34-24 win over Middle Tennessee, was limited in Wednesday's two-hour practice and still hasn't done any throwing since the Middle game.

UL Football Any Info On Desormeaux?

Anyone have any update on Mike D's injury? At worst I would suspect that he is out for next week and at best it will be day to day. Anyone have any reliable news?

As long as nothing is broken, I would expect him to be questionable for this weeks game. Just like he was going into the FIU game.
