The Broncos and former Indianapolis Colts receiver Brandon Stokley agreed to a one-year deal today, an NFL source confirmed. Stokley, one of the last remaining big-name players on the free-agent market, visited the Broncos last week. Stokley, a former Louisiana-Lafayette star, also had visited New Orleans. Stokley, 30, is considered an ideal No. 3 slot receiver when healthy. He still is recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon that cut short his 2006 season with the Indianapolis Colts. Stokley, who won Super Bowl rings with both the Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts, signed a one-year contract as a free agent with the Denver Broncos on Tuesday after first visiting the New Orleans Saints. Stokley's agent, Rick Smith, confirmed the deal, but didn't reveal how much the deal was worth. The Broncos declined to comment on the agreement. He must, to endure the painful road back from another injury, and to search for another NFL home after being released on March 2 by the Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts. "It's not fun," said Stokley, the former UL Ragin' Cajun who signed a one-year contract this week with the Denver Broncos. "It's not fun to go through all the medical stuff, to have X-rays and meet with the coaches when you visit a team. "And, then, to uproot your family and move to another city. My wife (former UL softball All-American Lana Jimenez) supports me, but it's hard when you've got two kids." A ruptured Achilles tendon ended Stokley's 2006 season after playing in just four games. Shoulder and knee injuries preceded that, though, so teams were cautious about signing him. His one-year deal with Denver is incentive driven for that reason. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. After targeting the backfield, both lines and tight end in free agency, Denver turned to wide receiver Thursday by announcing the signing of nine-year veteran wideout Brandon Stokley. Terms were not disclosed. Stokley's first eight seasons were equally divided between the Baltimore Ravens (1999-2002) and the Indianapolis Colts (2003-06). He arrives in Denver with career totals of 199 receptions 2,829 yards and 22 touchdown receptions. The 5-foot-11, 197-pounder has started 22 of the 74 games in which he has played. He has been to the playoffs in six of his eight seasons, winning Super Bowls with both the Ravens and Colts while adding 31 receptions for 462 yards and four touchdowns in 12 playoff games. Stokley saw his yardage increase in each of his four Baltimore seasons, from 28 yards on one catch as a rookie to 357 on 24 gabs in his fourth year, when he played just eight games. Colston is the guy you're thinking of. I too was not very impressed when he came back from his injury. He played differently like he was either always trying to NOT get hurt, or concentrating on the pain instead of the game. There was something not right with him after he returned. Usually in the NFL, it takes around three years for a reciever to break out. Many of the better recievers out there (Harrison, Ocho Cinco, T.O., etc.) didn't make a name for themselves right away. Torry holt was a little different, only because he got thrown into that high octane crap they were doing in STL Colston had the advantage of his size, he looks to be a pretty big guy for a reciever and is quick. Therefore, while he had a tough end of the season, i wouldn't say his honeymoon is quite over. he will need to make some serious improvements from what he did at the end of this season, going into next season, and show it wasn't a fluke, and then he can truly work on getting better.

Henderson sucks. He can run the go route, that's it. Then its a crap-shoot whether or not he catches it. If hired, and If healthy, Stokley would probably get the #3 spot and be that possesion type reciever. they seriously need someone else to come in and take over at #2 though. Did Eric Moulds sign anywhere yet? I am curious how much he wants. Could be a lot though, since the Texans are trying to create cap room and they cut him to do so.

harrison, ocho cinco and t.o didnt play tight end in college. colston came from hoftsra playing TE to a number one slot in the nfl! It was no fluke it just that defense starting giving him the respect he deserved. They starting covering him. Without a big threat at #2 or #3 how do you expect him to get open. For the most part if you let devery get his one big play a game and cover colston you can almost shuit down our passing game. Watch how good colston is going to be if we pick up a solid #2 and a great TE. If devery is our deep threat he needs to be #3 not #2. If we trade up to get olsen ({te from miami) imagine this set colston and devery on the outsides, eric johnson on the line,olsen in the slot and reggie and deuce in the backfield. Try covering that offense.

DENVER - The red vertical scar peeked through the top of Brandon Stokley's sock. The former Indianapolis Colts receiver unintentionally glanced in the scar's direction whenever he referenced it. Stokley ruptured his right Achilles' tendon on Dec. 10 at Jacksonville, and had season-ending surgery 10 days later. The injury, which occurred while he was with the Colts, almost drove him away from football. But he didn't want to wrap up his eight-year career like that and so he signed a one-year deal with Denver in the offseason. "A lot of teams were really scared of the Achilles," Stokley said. Including the Colts, who released Stokley on March 2. "I was willing to listen and see, but I think they think it's going to be a lot longer (recovery time) than I think it's going to be," Stokley said. Stokley, who was expected to miss six-to-eight months after the surgery, is hoping to be ready by training camp. His goal is to play in the season opener. Stokley's not trying to rush back. He just started jogging on a treadmill. After that he'll work out on the field and then begin cutting. "It's feeling good," Stokley said. "I'm just trying to get back into the flow. Brandon Stokley, WR: The Broncos issued him No. 14. He has never worn a number outside of the 80s in his NFL career until now, but wore this number to great acclaim back at University of Louisiana.

It was retired from UL annals after he completed his four years there with 241 receptions for 3,702 yards and 25 touchdowns while becoming the first player in Division I-A annals to average 100 receiving yards per game for his career.

Stokley believes superstar quarterbacks are born, not made.

"It's kind of hard to explain, but with the great ones you either have it or you don't," Stokley said. "You have to have that mentality where, if something bad happens you let that roll off your back, go to the next play and sling it in there again. I see that in Jay."
