Greene’s debut spices blowout win over old rival

LAFAYETTE — The last thing UL Lafayette’s Ragin’ Cajuns needed to do was dwell on Thursday’s late collapse against South Alabama.

Having the New Orleans Privateers in town did wonders to get them refocused, and the result was an impressive 85-64 victory before 6,024 fans in the Cajundome on Saturday.

“We wanted to get Thursday’s game behind us,” said senior guard Antoine Landry. “Our routine was not any different in practice on Friday, but we did focus on getting that loss out of our heads and getting prepared for tonight’s game.”

The Cajuns led USA 70-60, but committed crucial late turnovers and fell 76-73, the first loss in a home Sun Belt Conference opener under coach Jessie Evans.

Clearly, they got refocused in a hurry against the Privateers.

Landry led the way in that department. The De La Salle product scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting and added five assists for good measure.
