NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A concert organized to benefit Louisiana's
wetlands and fishermen affected by the massive oil spill in the
Gulf of Mexico has raised just over $300,000.
David Freedman, general manager of WWOZ and a member of the Gulf
Relief Foundation's board, said Friday that the first distribution
from the fund will go to the fishing community most affected by the
fishing closures in St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes.
Board member Sidney Torres, owner of SDT Waste and Disposal,
says donations are still coming in and they're expecting a boost
when the concert is broadcast at 10 p.m. CDT Saturday on Fuse TV.
The hour-long documentary will feature performances by Lenny
Kravitz, John Legend, Ani Difranco, Mos Def and Allen Toussaint.
