LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A woman who caused a traffic accident
that proved fatal to a state trooper has pleaded guilty to a
misdemeanor traffic offense.
The American Press reports 50-year-old Debra Bourque was fined
$100 and court costs and was ordered Thursday to complete a
defensive driving course or serve five days in jail. Bourque
pleaded guilty to running a stop sign.
Judge Kent Savoie, who imposed the sentence, said his
understanding of the accident was that Bourque "rolled through" a
stop sign. A vehicle driven by Senior Trooper Duane Dalton made an
effort to avoid striking Bourque's car.
In a prepared statement, Dourque said she never saw the
trooper's vehicle, and she told Dalton's widow that she doesn't
sleep at night thinking about his family.
