Embattled State Commissioner of Higher Education Sally Clausen is resigning at the end of June.

Tuesday morning’s announcement comes on the heels of controversy surrounding Clausen’s secretive one-day retirement last year that netted her extra income.

The move also comes during a time of state budget cuts to colleges during the legislative session that ends June 21.

In a prepared statement, Regents Chairman Artis Terrell said, “While these are difficult times for our state and especially our colleges, we cannot lose focus of our core mission – providing high quality postsecondary education leading to more graduates ready to succeed in the workforce.”

Clausen, who will have served the past two years as higher education commissioner, previously served as president of the University of Louisiana System and of Southeastern Louisiana University.

Good riddance. She is absolutely pathetic. Although, she'll probably turn up in another state government position somewhere.

Let her take over at ULM and run that university in the ground. Come to think of it, that wouldn't be such a bad thing. Maybe she would move them back to 1AA and the Southland Conference to better manage their everdwindling budget.

I would like to think that Sally has seen her last significant role in Louisiana government. But... you just never know in this state. I'm still awaiting Eddie's last term as governor. "Last term" only because I think he'll keel over in the middle of a lap dance... given by a prospective appointee... Miss Sally herself.
