Sixteen law enforcement agencies from Acadiana ran in the 2010 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics on Thursday morning.
The goal is to bring awareness to Special Olympics Louisiana and the upcoming summer games.
Acadiana has 1300 Special Olympics athletes, so these volunteers hope to encourage locals to donate to the cause. Their total goal is 300,000 dollars.
"It really depends on the enthusiasm, excitement, awareness, and what the officers are committing to do. Believe, me this group will forge ahead, I see it coming," says Pat Bourgeois, President of Special Olympics Louisiana.
Acadiana was the top fundraising group out of the 13 areas in the state a few years ago, so the group hopes to get back on top, as this is an important cause to them.
"One of the things law enforcement has always tried to do is work with those people who are disadvantaged, whatever we can do to help," says Albert Glaude from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office.
