BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - May 28 is the deadline for agribusiness
owners affected by hurricanes Gustav and Ike to apply for
low-interest loans through the Agribusiness Recovery Loan Program.
Louisiana Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain says
that's the day finished applications must be delivered and date
stamped by his department.
The program provides low-interest loans to businesses such as
aerial applicators, loggers, cotton gins and grain elevators.
Strain says $40 million was loaned last year to about 1,100
farmers, ranchers and agribusinesseses hit by the 2008 hurricanes.
He says that included all $34.5 million available for farmers, but
$2.2 million is left for agribusiness loans.
Owners who got loans last year cannot apply, but those who were
turned away may reapply.
