Baton Rouge LA, State Fire Marshal H. "Butch" Browning announced that his office is investigating a fire at a business that claimed the life of a man. The Covington Fire Department was summoned on May 18, 2010 at 04:04hrs to 621 N. Jackson St. in Covington Louisiana to a report that Jackson's Cabinetry Shop was on fire. The department arrived within minutes to find the paint shop to be burning. The Firefighters entered the dangerous building and found, what is believed to be the body of the owner Mr. Gordon Jackson (dob. 10-11-1964); he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The building sustained significant fire damage and the loss total is in excess of $75,000.00
The State Fire Marshal, in partnership with the Covington Fire Department and Police Department are conducting an investigation as to the reason why this fire occurred and the tragic death that resulted. At this time the investigation is ongoing and no determinations has been made. The Fire Marshal stated, "We are collecting evidence so to properly classify the cause of this fire, including awaiting the findings of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner". He further states,"We are saddened that a life was lost and will work diligently to get the family answers". The investigation will continue into next week and additional details will be provided as they are learned.
