Evangeline Parish - It's no whooping matter!
The Evangeline Parish School Board was notified a case of Pertussis - also known as the whooping cough - was identified at Bayou Chicot Elementary by the Office of Public Health.
Darwan Lazard, parish administrator for the school board, said they were notified late Monday afternoon, May 17. The school district was informed the case occurred between April 15, and May 10, and the contagious stage has passed. Lazard said they were informed there was no need to close the school or any other school because there were no known cases.
