A 25 year old is being bars tonight in St.Landry for allegedly killing a toddler. It happened on May 5th. The Sheriffs department received a call about a child being unresponsive. They later arrested and charged Napoleon Prudhomme with manslaughter. He is now awaiting a bond hearing for the death of his girlfriend's two year old daughter.
No one was at the home Tuesday afternoon, however neighbors are shocked. They say something like this must have been an accident. "We've got enough stuff going on, we sure don't need anymore," said neighbor Lynic Stelly.
The girlfriend left her baby to Prudhomme for him to baby sit. According to the incident report the baby was crying and Prudhomme shook the baby to make her stop. "We interviewed Mr. Napolean Prudhomme and he has since confessed to the shaken baby syndrome," said Sheriff Guidroz.
Neighbors say they are surprised this has happened. "They're just good neighbors and good people," said neighbor Joseph Jones "I didn't think I had neighbors like that. That's if they intentionally shook that baby, said Stelly. Guidroz says cases like this one are rare in St. Landry Parish.
The funeral for the toddler has already taken place. Prudhomme is in the St. Landry parish jail awaiting a bond hearing.
