Press Release- On May 5, 2010, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a two year old child that was in a non responsive state. The child was transported to a hospital in Lafayette, La. and had been placed on life support. May 7, 2010, it was learned that the child had passed away. An autopsy was done and investigators learned the cause of death was from blunt trauma to the head, swelling of the brain and bleeding on the brain displaying indications of shaking baby syndrome.
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz said, "On May 18, 2010, Napoleon J. Prudhomme was arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with this case. Mr. Prudhomme is the boyfriend of the child's mother and was taking care of the child at the time of the incident. Mr. Prudhomme has been booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail."
