Pedestrian Killed in Crash

Evangeline Parish- Last night, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle pedestrian crash on LA 757 near Ronald Road that claimed the life of a Lake Charles woman.
According to investigating troopers, on May 14, 2010, at 11:00 p.m., a 2001 Mitsubishi passenger car, driven by 18-year-old Kathryn Bourgeois of Basile, LA, was traveling west behind another uninvolved vehicle. Three pedestrians, 20-year-old Demeisha Arceneaux, an uninvolved pedestrian, and a four-year-old boy all of Lake Charles, LA, were walking west in the eastbound lane. Bourgeois was passing the vehicle traveling in front of her when she struck Arceneaux with the front of her vehicle. Arceneaux was pronounced dead at the scene by the Evangeline Parish Coroner. The child was struck by debris and sustained minor injuries.
Bourgeois was not injured in the crash. Charges are pending the outcome of the crash investigation. Toxicology samples were obtained from both Arceneaux and Bourgeois. The samples were submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
