BP has ordered a third of the world's available chemical disperants to fight the spill and so far used 400,000 gallons in the gulf.
The chemicals break up oil spills into droplets and the droplets sink to the bottom of the ocean, but a coastal expert at ULL says she fears the disperants could be harmful to marine life.
Dr. Barbara Benson is not alone in her concerns. Three headline stories from the New York Times, The New Orleans Examiner, and the Huffington Post are raising questions about why BP is using a certain kind of chemical. It's made by a former Exxon Mobil Company with ties to BP according to the reports.
The EPA has approved the use of the disperants, BP has yet to comment, KATC will continue to work the story.
