One of the hottest teams in the country, the Ragin' Cajuns close out their home schedule hosting Western Kentucky. The first game of the series is set for tonight at 6:00 PM followed by a 6:00 PM game on Saturday and 1:00 PM Sunday at Tigue Moore Field.
The Cajuns have won 18 of their last 20 games. It's occurred since the second half of the season started April 6 at Northwestern State. That's the best mark in the Sun Belt and State of Louisiana and one of the best in the nation.
Comeback Kids: The Ragin' Cajuns have swept their last four Sun Belt series for a 12-game win streak in league play. That's vaulted UL from 4-8 and ninth in the standings to 16-8 and into a tie for second place.
Did You Know?: Louisiana's current string of 12 consecutive conference victories is a school record. The previous record was 10 set in 2006 and tied this season.
Last Hurrah: UL celebrates "Senior Weekend" with the WKU series marking the final home games of 2010. It will mark the final home games for seniors Kyle Bostick, Chad Keefer, Jon Masch, Kyle Olasin, Zach Osborne and Justin Robichaux.
Top Sun Belt Staffs Meet: The two teams ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in ERA in the Sun Belt meet this weekend. Louisiana leads with a 3.36 ERA (Top 10 nationally) and WKU is second with a 4.43 mark.
Another Marquee Matchup: With Zach Osborne having a stellar season fans have been treated to stellar pitching matchups on Friday. It's no different this weekend as he'll be opposed by WKU's Matt Ridings (8-1, 3.38 ERA).
Western Kentucky Series (UL leads 36-20): Louisiana and Western Kentucky meet in a weekend series at "Tigue" Moore Field for the 10th time. UL holds a 21-6 edge over the Toppers at "The Tigue". Overall, the Cajuns have won 11 of the 16 all-time weekend sets (68 percent). WKU has won the last two series and last season collected their first-ever series win at "The Tigue".
Quick Reset: Chad Keefer's bases-loaded single in the sixth broke a tie and UL went on to post a 7-5 win over Southern at Lee-Hines Field in Baton Rouge. Thad Griffen's three scoreless innings of relief and Joey Satriano's fifth save sealed the victory.
Valuing the Team Concept: UL's starting lineup features seven hitters batting above .300, seven hitters with at least 30 base hits and six hitters with at least 20 RBI.
The Power Surge: Chad Keefer and Jordan Poirrier - hitting in the three and four spot in the lineup - have combined for 120 base hits of which 25 are doubles and 22 home runs and they have combined to drive in 93 runs.
Mr. Quality: Zach Osborne has turned in 10 quality starts (out of 12 total) this season. Osborne has fanned nine in a game five times and reached double figures three times. He leads all starting pitchers in the Sun Belt with a 2.47 ERA.
You Don't See This Often: With T.J. Geith lowering his ERA to 4.65 last Saturday, every Cajuns pitcher on the roster now has an ERA below 5.00.
Untouchable After Six: UL is 22-3 when scoring six-plus runs.
