BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Workforce Commission and
Department of Social Services are joining to open mobile offices in
areas where the Gulf of Mexico oil spill has hit the seafood
business hard.
One opened Thursday in Boothville-Venice, in the parking lot for
the claims office opened by BP PLC. Spokeswoman Tara Lachney says
another will open Friday in Lafitte, and more are planned in Grand
Isle and Cut Off.
A mobile unit is already open at the Islenos Museum in St.
Bernard.
They're open weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Workforce Commission will help people apply for jobs -
including those to clean oil, spread boom, or otherwise help deal
with the oil spill. The Department of Social Services is taking
applications for programs including the Supplemental Nutrition
Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps.
