MONROE, La. (AP) - A Louisiana black bear that strayed into
human territory one time too many is now in the Monroe Zoo.
Police and the state wildlife agents caught the 350-pound,
5-year-old animal Tuesday in woods within a mile of a major highway
through Lafayette.
Maria Davidson, large carnivore program manager for the
Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, says he'll be housed with a
female American black bear once he's through quarantine and the pen
is enlarged.
Davidson says he was relocated after being caught in Patterson
two years ago, and was picked up again last month.
She says they won't be breeding the bears, because the female is
a different subspecies.
