Louisiana head coach Jessie Evans said that he scheduled his men’s basketball squad into the Fiesta Bowl Classic in order to challenge his squad.
Welcome to the challenge.
The Ragin’ Cajuns face the highest-ranked opponent they’ll meet all season tonight when they meet host Arizona in the tournament’s championship game. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. (CST) in UA’s McKale Center.
The Cajuns (4-3) worked their way into the tournament finals Sunday with a surprisingly easy 95-71 win over Valparaiso in the semifinals, taking their first win away from home this season.
The task will be much tougher tonight, with the fourth-ranked Wildcats (7-1) riding a six-game win streak since a one-point loss to Florida back on Nov. 28. Arizona is in its own tournament’s finals for the 19th time in 19 seasons, and has won 18 titles with the lone setback coming in the 2000 championship game — a 75-74 loss to Mississippi State.
