Thread: There are more University of Louisiana fans in area than you know.

  1. UL Football There are more University of Louisiana fans in area than you know.

Recently I read (and disagree) why it was prudent for the Advertiser to focus heavily on LSU and ignore UL.

He stated; "Since there are more LSU season ticket holders in Lafayette Parish than UL season ticket holders, the Advertiser is just being smart."

My contention is there are more UL fans than LSU fans, all they need is a reason to cheer. I base this on how many attended the Texas A&M game and Alabama games. And this leads me to ask, have 38,000 Advertiser readers ever attended an LSU game on the same day?

    I think not.

I hope you are right but I know one thing. I live in Breaux Bridge so I have to travel West on I-10 to get to Cajun Field for each home game. It is pretty frustraiting seeing all the vehicles with LSU signs, flags, etc traveling East on I-10 to Baton Rouge on Saturdays.

But most of those people are fair weather fans anyway. We as Cajun fans will have our day. Just remember that it took 45 years for LSU to get back into a Championship game.

    Ragin' Cajuns

Last week I was in a board meeting, and one of the lsubr alumni was wearing a lsubr tie. I asked him if it was new, he replied, "No. Why do you ask?" I told him I thought it was new because I had not seen him wearing it four years ago. If looks could have killed ........

It is funny how many LSU fans have come out of the closet lately.

    Here is a little story:

There is a lady I work with that I did not even know she liked football until LSU was named to the Sugar Bowl. Then of course everything was LSU to her. Our 2 main bosses at work are both from Oklahoma. So they started having a "fight song war". They would each take turns playing the fight songs over our intercom.

Well one day she took off of work to go to New Orleans and we got into her computer. We changed everything to a OU Theme. We had the fight song playing almost everytime she did something. There was even an OU wagon that would go across the screen. To top things off I locked all her desktop icons so she could not do anything but click on her start button.

Needless to say she was not to happy especially since we did not tell her how to fix her computer. I fixed the icons after a couple hours but the OU theme stayed on her computer all day. It was hallarious.

I don't know turby 350,000 LSU fans in New Orleans I bet at least 38,000 are from Acadiana.

The Advertiser is published not to promote the Ragin Cajuns, but to make money. If you think that covering the Tigers, the biggest sports story in Louisiana in decades, is uncalled for then you are obviously a huge homer.

If UL ever made it to the National Championship game they would get their special insert all over the state too. That's the problem, UL isn't even close. If UL made it to the New Orleans Bowl they'd get a special insert in The Advertiser.

It's all sour grapes. As a fan of both teams it is very obvious that LSU making it to the championship is great for our state.

On a State level perhaps, locally for sure.

I certainly agree with you CajunsFan11

Since I feel there are more closet Cajun fans in Acadiana than LSU fans, coupled with the fact that there are many (like myself) crossover fans, the Advertiser is just covering the hot topic.

I do however, have a problem when they give LSU top billing during normal times.

I agree. And I think there are many closet UL fans. Unfortunately they need a reason to come out and we'll just have to wait for that one. It's only a matter of time now though.

One thing I have learned about LSU fans, they need the wins more than we do, not saying I like losses, but, Not to be able to have bragging rights in the SEC is degrading and they need something to make them feel better or superior. IT is amazing how much money they are willing to fork out to be WINNERS. I hope to be a winner one day too. I have to hear about lsubra&m from my boss to much and I am convinced he would be nothing without his precious victories stories and whines when they lose. Give me a brake.

USLJIM you are right and you would not believe how many depressed LSU fans I have run into since they won the National Championship. I do not understand whining in victory.
