Thread: Campus Series: Edith Garland Dupre' Library ( Photos )

  1. Default Campus Series: Edith Garland Dupre' Library ( Photos )

Edith Garland Dupré Library is centrally situated on the oldest and first campus of the University of Louisiana.

The library is named after Louisiana's very first Librarian, Edith Garland Dupré. She was also the English and French Professor for Louisiana's inagural session in 1901.

The library is open to students, faculty, staff, and the public.

    The pics are from 2003.

To me the rear addition of Edith Garland Dupre' Library is among the best architecture looks on campus.

And how! I totally forgot about that part of it. Too bad its not a lot more visible. Although I really like the de-constructed arches leading up to it in the front.

But I would have to quibble a bit with the original post of 2003: while it is now centrally located, technically it is not part of the original campus. The original part is really just the Quad, bordered by University, Hebrard, St Mary and Johnston. And chunks of that weren't originally part of it either....they were added in circa 39-40.

The second photo from the top shows a precast concrete embellishment that is an homage to Judice hall across st. Mary. It's the piece that looks like a book end on both sides of the window. That part of the building looks like a book.

Also, the front looks much better without the jungle.
