    Default J. Kelley Hall

Hearing that he is a finalist for the job at Morehead State, per our local drivetime sports radio.

    Good luck coach !

  2. Default Re: J. Kelley Hall

If it's what he wants I hope he gets it.

He has worked in the State of Kentucky before and if they hire him Morehead State won't regret it.

for selfish reasons I hope he does not get it, but if he does good luck, they will be getting a good one.

What he wants is to come back as UL's coach. But, since we are keeping Rogers and will endure another year of losing, he needs to move on. I think UL is making a mistake and not releasing Rogers and bringing Coach Hall back, but that is just my opinion. I certainly wish him the best in wherever he ends up.

I've seen you post a similar comment WRT Coach Hall before. Do you actually "KNOW" this, or are you simply speculating that he wants to come back to UL? Seems to me that he has decided to move on; meaning his time in Lafayette is history......one not to be repeated.

Kelley has had several conversations with many different people here in Lafayette. It is not a secret that he and Meredith want to come back here and raise their children where they were born. David & Scott are aware of this. But David has chosen to honor the last year of Errol's contract and Kelley is not going to wait, and he's not going to come back and clean up the program again.
Think about this: Errol has one more year on his contract. If we look to replace him after next season, what type of candidate can we look forward to replacing him? The three best candidates to replace Kelley were an inexperienced assistant college coach, a high school coach and a former head college coach who was let go from a Southland Conference job. If that's the best we can get when the program is coming off an NCAA at-large bid, what are we going to get when the program is back in the doldrums?

I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't hire back someone that left you. It's like taking back your ex-wife. She left you for what she thought was something better, so why should you take her back. I wish the Hall's nothing but the best in the future, but it won't be at UL.

You are exactly right. I personally spoke with Coach Hall on several occassions. He got a lucrative buy-out of a bad situation in Cincinnati and we could have gotten him mid-year this past season for $0 to finish the year. He and his wife do want to return to UL. What was promised to him at Cincinnati changed with a new AD and a move to a BCS school, despite the financial advantages, did not work out. He wants to return here and finish out his coaching, but needs to do something and can't wait around forever for UL to do something. It is now obvious that UL will honor the final year of Rogers contract which will only serve to further damage a program Coach Hall built up. Of course, there is no guarantee what UL will do in another year. So, he has to take care of himself and his family.

I remember reading a post here that Rogers might be asked to return as an Asst. Coach at Miss State. Anything to that rumor? It would likely be a good move for Rogers now because he will be fired next year after another losing season. And, we will have lost Coach Hall. Having another winning, NCAA bound program when Conference Realignment comes around would not hurt UL. But, I'm afraid it won't happen.

Appreciate the insight. I totally understand Coach Hall not wanting to wait another year, so great that he has a chance to coach again soon. The only exception I take to your comments is WRT this program. If he "would" have been willing to take over the program this year (assuming we let Errol go); then he would be cleaning up a mess anyway - - whether this year or next; it's still a mess now.

As for the other comment (from Rebel) about not wanting him back (comparison to divorce, etc); I don't have a problem in that regard. This is a business, not a marriage. He took a job (my assumption only) that he thought to be a step up the ladder, better money for he and his family. Sometimes you realize the job you had just may have been the one meant for you; but you dont' see if at first. If he truely wanted to be back here and "commit" to this university (as the university should to him if he came back), then I'd be happy for that arrangement.

P.S. Coach - I see that you are commenting on this thread, and am fully aware that you visit here often. So I fully understand any "no comment" WRT this position. Good luck wherever you land.

Joseph Savoie navigated that road successfully.

I don't think one should hold coaches to a higher standard.

Not quite the same, as he came back in a different capacity; but an interesting analogy just the same.
