  1. UL Baseball RPI 5/9/2010

The Cajuns' Adjusted RPI dropped a very small amount last night (.0008). See discussion here . https://forumeus.com/sh.73&postcount=6

Unfortunately, Troy fell just outside of the Top 75 Base RPI to #76. This gives the Cajuns a losing record against the RPI Top 75 (9-11). The Cajuns are 14-14 vs. the RPI Top 100.

With Northwestern State holding steady at a Base RPI of 62, the Cajuns are still comfortably earning their RPI bonus of .0012. A Northwestern State move into the RPI Top 50 would give the Cajuns an RPI bonus of .0018.

    Some other measures:
    - Non-Conference RPI: .5667, #37
    - Conference RPI ranking: #5
    - Road RPI: .5579, #39
    - SOS: .5447, #50

RPI will most likely drop again when we beat Southern this week. We need to just keep piling up wins in the second half of the season and this will look good to the selection committee. Also our RPI will become less volatile as the season goes on. As long as we win 2/3 of our remaining games our RPI will finish around #35 and winning 2/3 of our remaining games should have us at least in the top 3 of the SBC regular season with a decent RPI which should put us in position for an at-large bid. By winning 2/3 that is beating SU, MSU, 2/3 WKU, 2/3 ULM, and going 2-2 in the SBC tournament.

I wouldn't mind SLU dropping out of the Top 50 (0-2), but then picking up 2 or 3 wins against WKY next weekend. This would improve our record against the RPI Top 50.

The RPI will drop a little, but not much. Assuming average opponent performance, you are probably looking at a drop of .0015, .0020 at most. Whether this translates to a rise or fall in RPI rank depends on the results of teams within the vicinity of the Cajuns' RPI rank.

Wins over ULM should allow us to keep our RPI intact.

Most of the volatility has been wrung out. Division I connectivity is over 52% and the Cajuns have a connectivity of 51.67%. These are strong numbers . as strong as the numbers at the end of the season in some recent years.

If the Cajuns win 5 of their remaining 7 conference games, I agree that this will be enough to finish Top 3 in the Sun Belt. We are already at least two games up in the loss column on everyone below us. Winning 4/7 would be dicey.

However, winning 2/3 of our remaining games will not allow us to finish around #35 . unless a number of teams around us tank the finish. The best thing to look at as an indicator is the RPI value itself. All other things being equal (and assuming average performance of the teams around the Cajuns), the Cajuns will likely need to go 7-2 the remainder of the regular season to keep their RPI (not rank) where it is. Thus, when considering RPI rank, there is a decent chance that 6-3 does not keep the Cajuns in the Top 40 RPI rankings. 7-2 might get the Cajuns to #35, it might not.

For the regular season portion above . I assume you also mean beating UNO. That would be 7-2 for the regular season portion. I feel comfortable that 7-2 would have us in the Top 40. Top 35 is tight . maybe not.

Adding in 2-2 for the Sun Belt Tournament (9-4 finish or just under 70%) has a decent chance of keeping us in the Top 40 (definitely not a sure thing). Top 35? Not with average performances of our opponents and teams around the Cajuns' RPI rank. But it is important to know who those four games will be against. We know that the worst Base RPI that will be in the tournament is currently 84. But that still does not provide us the required clarity.

#1 SLU is not in the Base RPI Top 50 (currently #52). Thus, our 0-2 record against them does not count in our RPI Top 50 record.

#2 Having Troy move back up into the Base RPI Top 75 is much more important than keeping SLU out of the Base RPI Top 50.

And yes, picking up at least 2/3 from WKU is paramount. More important than winning the UNO game today. But let's win them all.
