COLUMBIA, S.C. — Louisiana's Lady basketball squad could not hold onto an early lead and South Carolina found the hot hand from long range as the Gamecocks posted a 72-59 win over the Cajuns here Thursday night.

The Lady Cajuns led 18-14 after the midway point of the first half before the host Gamecocks (8-1) went on an 18-4 run over the last seven minutes before intermission to take a 32-22 lead.

South Carolina used a blazing 64 percent shooting mark behind the arc in the first half to take that edge, and then hit two of three treys to start the second half to build a 14-point lead.

The Cajuns (3-5) sliced the margin to nine points twice in the final two minutes but could get no closer.
