In Evangeline Parish, one community is dealing with a tragedy. A Lake Charles woman, Shannon Cox, and Shelia Serie of Ville Platte died in a car wreck this week.
Shelia's husband, Roy was driving the vehicle that allegedly caused that crash. He is a coach at Ville Platte High School. Family and friends say the students love and respect him on and off the field. They say the couple was well-liked throughout the community.
Shelia was battling cancer. But, friends say that never dimmed her team spirit.
"She was just a wonderful person. She was always a part of the Bulldog community even times when she wasn't feeling very well... She was still at the games helping me cheer," family friend, Jennifer Vidrine said.
The couple's daughter, Kiara Serie is a Senior at Ville Platte High School. She says, she's just trying to keep the family strong, just days before Mother's Day. Kiara says her mother was everything to her.
"(She was) my best friend, my hero, my other half...and I'm going to miss her so much, but I'm going to be strong for my daddy," Kiara said.
The funeral for Shelia Serie will be held Saturday, May 8th at 11am at St. Paul Baptist Church in Ville Platte. The Wednesday afternoon crash is still under investigation.
