A cool front will cross the area late tonight ushering cooler temperatures for the weekend but no relief from the worsening drought across Acadiana. The U.S. Drought Monitor upgraded much of Acadiana from "abnormally dry" to a "moderate drought" after one of the driest Aprils on record. Rainfall deficits this year are running 10 inches or more below normal. The front tonight will produce little or no significant rain and the outlook through the next week looks dry. There may be a better chance of showers and storms around the 16th or 17th of the month, but generally dry conditions perpetuate more dry conditions. In the near-term this weekend, look for partly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s Saturday and lower 80s Sunday. Overnight lows will likely dip into the upper 50s for Saturday night. Warmer temperatures along with high humidity will return for next week. As a side note, gusty northerly winds this weekend will likely make for rougher conditions across the oil spill site and will likely drive the slick to the south and west as brisk winds turn easterly by Monday.
