NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Mayor Mitch Landrieu says City Hall will
return to a five-day work schedule starting June 1, reversing a
policy established by his predecessor, Ray Nagin.
Nagin established a four-day week for city offices to cut
electricity costs and help offset a potential $68 million deficit
in the city's 2010 operating budget.
New Orleans CityBusiness says Landrieu said Friday that City
Hall should be open five days a week to New Orleans residents.
Landrieu says he weighed the importance of utility cost savings
over the needs of residents and businesses.
Based on initial energy savings in the first month, the four-day
workweek was projected to save the city roughly $350,000 a year,
according to the Landrieu administration.
