Newcomers make immediate impact as Cajuns pull away from McNeese State

LOUISIANA La. — UL was forced into a slowdown game twice in its first three outings this season, mostly due to a lack of bodies.

The Ragin’ Cajun basketball team got some reinforcements for the first time Monday night, and the difference was literally night and day.

The Cajuns played race-horse for most of two hours at the Cajundome, and did a good enough job in some impressive runs to take a 76-70 win over long-time rival McNeese.

“We were a lot more up and down the floor tonight,” said Cajun head coach Jessie Evans. “We’ll try to find a happy medium somewhere. We’re not as athletic as some of the teams we’ve had in the past, so we have to rely on getting some easy baskets and letting our offense create shots for us.”

The Cajuns (2-2) did that Monday, grabbing 13 steals from the Cowboys and converting several of those into transition baskets and highlight-reel dunks.
