NEW ORLEANS — In every and not every Mitchell return has gone the distance. kick return, there’s a right way and a wrong way to turn.

Go one way, and you’re headed for a long gain. Go the other, and you’re swarmed under deep in your own territory.

For nearly 14 years in the National Football League, former University of Louisiana star Brian Mitchell has made more than his share of right decisions on the field.

You don’t get to be the most prodigious return man in NFL history by taking too many clogged alleys.

But, lately, Mitchell’s journey through league coverage units has been detoured.

Mitchell is in his first year with the New York Giants, after winning a Super Bowl and spending 10 seasons in Washington and playing the last three years for Philadelphia.

This latest career cutback hasn’t worked out.
