More than 1,000 earn diplomas at Louisiana
LOUISIANA La. — Cowbells, air horns, screams and applause greeted many of the more than 1,000 new graduates of the University of Louisiana Saturday.
Commencement exercises were held for nine of the university’s colleges, as well as the graduate school program, staggered throughout the day at the Cajundome’s arena and convention center.
After having a picture taken with the dean and collecting their diplomas backstage, a few recent grads of the College of Liberal Arts shared their plans for the future.
“I just finished moving to Atlanta,” said Chelsy Cannon of Berwick, who got her bachelor’s in interpersonal and public communications and wants to be a professional makeup artist for models and entertainers.
Dora Courville, a native of Eunice, is staying closer to home. She also got her degree in interpersonal communications but with a minor in marketing. She said that she finished school in August and already has a job she loves, doing marketing for Evangeline Home Health in Eunice.
“I get to travel and promote home health at doctors’ offices and places like elderly apartments,” she said.
