Dayton -- Falling behind in the first half and bouncing back in the second is starting to become a habit for the University of Dayton men's basketball team. It took a half of solid shooting and perimeter defense to push the Flyers over the University of Louisiana at Lafayette 66-59 Tuesday night at UD Arena.

In the first half, the Flyers could not get anything going from the outside, shooting 20 percent from behind the 3-point line. Only guard Mark Jones could find the range, making two of five, and giving Dayton a one-point lead, 27-26, it's only one of the half, at 6:11 to play.

"We weren't attacking the rim at all," UD coach Brian Gregory said. "We can't play into their hands like that. Our big men were finding spaces in the zone instead of getting contact. Post up, get contact, and keep going inside."

The Ragin' Cajuns, on the other hand, shot 8-19 from beyond the arc, several of which came from their transition game. They took a nine point lead into the locker room as well as the edge in shooting percentage (44.3) posting 16 for 36 from the floor.

Fortunately, the Flyers' bad luck didn't continue into the next period. Dayton went on a 14-0 run to begin it, taking the lead 45-40 with a combination of transition baskets and outside shots that broke the Cajun's 1-3-1 match-up zone.

"We ran that at Arizona when I was there," Louisiana-Lafayette coach Jessie Evans said. "We put pressure on the ball and try to get to the shooters. It's really a man-to-man, but it has a lot of zone principles."
