Volleyball 2009-10 ???

We get it! We all understand that there are some misgivings with the volleyball team/Coach. I have heard bits and pieces from a pretty reputable source....maybe now is the time for you parents, friends, relatives to come forth(on the board) with your grievances instead of tip-toeing around this issue.

If you cant/wont do that....then I am tired of hearing about it.

What more information do you want? The team (not just one or two players) went to the administration with a list of problems they experienced on the team, one of which was the showing of some pretty inappropriate pictures to members of the team by the head coach. Administration told the team they had no idea they were experiencing so many problems and would take care of it. They talked to head coach, who told them that the problem was with one or two players on the team convincing others to join a metaphorical "bandwagon." At that time the administration decided to support the coach, despite the information provided to them by players and player parents. Six players quit, the assistant coach was blamed and asked to resign. The assistant went to administration and talked about the inappropriate behavior of the head coach. Again they supported the head coach. The head coach has now removed a scholarship of a senior who complained about her treatment, but has never been disrespectful and in fact told her that the scholarship was not being removed because of her play, but because of her "attitude." Now a senior (on her last day of school) had to tell her teamates goodbeye for the last time and find another place to go to school and play ball.

What board is available for those of us who think this is wrong to go to? If there is any information on a person to talk to or contact that would be extremely helpful. As far as I knew Farmer and Walker are the decision makers and any problems have to go to them. Again any info would be much appreciated.

I never said or implied this wasnt wrong....we've just been following this saga for a few months now and I was curious as to what exactly was happening. Have you spoken with Dr Savoie?

I've held my tongue long enough. Just heard from daughter about this senior having her scholarship yanked this late in the year. Unreal, that is so wrong! She has been a starter for 3 years. Also all of the walk-ons were told they were no longer needed. Except one girl. So that makes 8 scholarship girls and at least 7 walk-ons to leave this program in two years. Kicker is, our daughter still loves the girls and just returned from a 4 day visit to see them last week. As previously stated the whole team went and talked to Farmer. My guess is the coach has a 4 year contract and is married to one of the top lawyers in the state so........... They will not fire her as volleyball is not as important as the other sports on campus as far as revenue is concerned. Can't afford to pay her off and then pay her replacement. Farmer has the list of issues.There were 3 pages of complaints and examples. How about the team ate a light lunch in Alabama last year at noon, lost at 3:00 and coach punished them by not stopping for dinner all the way back until they returned to Laffy after 9:00. How about forcing a player with a 102 temp to go on a road trip or else.This was during the flu outbreak. Threatening injured players. Ask the head nurse at the infirmary what she thinks of this coach. I could go on and on. All of their complaints were blown off. Coach told the girls afterwards that she was going no where and they better get used to that idea. our daughter had offers from major schools but fell in love with this team, the campus and the city. She played in the Junior Olympic program for big name coaches. Played for one of the top club teams in the nation. Had over 20 coaches all with different coaching styles. This coach is a wack. She does not deserve to run a D1 team. Coach said all of the right things to the girls to get them there and then turned on the team. Jeckell and Hyde.Ask her previous schools team what they thought of her. She was forced out from what we were told. What a shame as this team could have made the tourney this next season. Now there are 4 scholarship and 1 walk-on player left. Someone needs to ask Farmer some tough questions. This was not a "lynch mob" it was a group of girls who loved each other as a family and then went to the one person (Farmer) that is in place to protect them and he turned his head the other way. These girls all deserved better.

Everything you said is true. We went to Farmer, now we need to go to Savoie and the newspapers. We need to get organized and advocate for these athletes.

Forgive me all knowing one but what does "oh please" mean? You have an account from a concerned father... The track record of girls leaving speaks for itself... If your purpose in life is to be an apologist for this administration say so... otherwise please explain your basis for "oh please"??

Oh gosh....you know, I talked with someone about this situation today and made the comment "Watch, if I make a comment on Ragin' Pagin, someone will accuse me of being an apologist."

We know something's going on. But I guess we won't ever know what it really is.
