NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu has
appointed an interim police chief.
Assistant Superintendent Marlon Defillo is the interim
Superintendent of Police until a new police superintendent can take
over. Landrieu said Monday that two people remain under
consideration for the top post. He hopes to have the final
selection made by the end of the week.
DeFillo - a 29-year veteran of the department - replaces Warren
Riley, who had announced plans to leave the job at the beginning of
a new city administration.
Landrieu was sworn in Monday morning.
