LOUISIANA La. — Natalie Gillis added one more honor to her impressive University of Louisiana cross country career Tuesday, being named to the All-Louisiana Collegiate Team by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
The senior from Prairieville was one of seven women honored on the state team and was the only Cajun honored on the combined men’s and women’s squads.
Gillis finished second at the Sun Belt Conference Championships in earning her first all-league honors, and was also the Sun Belt’s Performer of the Week during the season when she finished third at the LSU Invitational Meet.
Gillis led the Cajuns in all six of their team outings this year, finishing in the top 10 in four of those six, and captured her first career title in winning the Northwestern Invitational honors with a 19:27.47 time.
She wrapped up her cross country career with a 64th-place finish in the NCAA South Central regional meet.
Gillis was also a standout on the Cajun track and field team last year with the best season of her career. She posted the best time in the Sun Belt in the grueling 10,000-meter race with a school-record 38:07.20 time that gave her an eighth-place finish in the nationally-known Texas Relays.
