Gilles chooses Cajuns

LOUISIANA La. — Louisiana’s football squad had a depth shortage in the offensive front during the 2003 season, so it’s no surprise that area is being targeted by the Ragin’ Cajun coaching staff.

Apparently, their recruits in that area are responding.

The Cajuns got their fourth commitment from an offensive line prospect Tuesday, when guard Ryan Gilles of Santa Ana (Calif.) College gave a verbal commitment to head coach Rickey Bustle.

The 6-3, 278-pound Gilles, a two-year starter at guard and an All-Mission Conference selection, cast his lot after a weekend visit to Acadiana and the university.

“Everybody I talked to, even people who had nothing to do with the program, seem really psyched about the program,” Gilles said Tuesday. “They talked about how things are turning around and are on the way up. Once they found out I was a recruit, they had nothing but good things to say.”

Gilles, a native of Yorba Linda, Calif., joins fellow offensive linemen Austin Wilkinson of The Woodlands, Texas, Jesse Newman of Powell River, British Columbia and Bobby Fails of Parkview Baptist High in Baton Rouge as commitments for the 2004 recruiting class.
