Thread: Folks, that was a Huge Win!

  1. UL Baseball Folks, that was a Huge Win!

A victory this afternoon (sweep) puts the Cajuns right back into the fight for the conference title. The loss column is bunched tight in the Sun Belt.

It depends on what other teams do today, but I think a win this afternoon would likely give the Cajuns a Top 40 RPI.

Youre getting us excited Brian. The way this team is playing, we look like a top 40 rpi team. Two one run loses that easily could have been wins, this team is clicking on all cylinders. Fielding, hitting, pitching, baserunning, and solid bullpen work is making us a sun belt beast. If we can handle business, and sweep UNO next week that sets up a monster series against the blod clots.

It is certainly time to get excited. The Cajuns have now moved into third place in the Sun Belt at 13-8, fueled by a nine game conference winning streak. And for those that are miffed by losing one (of three) to Le Moyne last weekend, Florida State dropped the opener to the Dolphins 3-1 in Tallahassee (which will help the Cajuns' OWP ... 50% of the RPI formula). Le Moyne is tied with FSU 5-5 in the B8th of Game #2.

    Current Sun Belt Standings ...

    South Alabama 15-6
    Florida Atlantic 16-7
    Louisiana 13-8
    Western Kentucky 12-8
    Arkansas State 12-8
    Middle Tennessee 14-10
    Florida International 11-8 (leading ULM 5-1 B4th)

The Cajuns have what I believe to be a favorable schedule down the stretch now. While the Cajuns still have two Sun Belt road series remaining, they are at ULM (5-14 in conference) and UNO (2-19 in conference). They simply need to take care of these teams. They get Western Kentucky at home in two weeks. The Hilltoppers have been struggling lately and the Cajuns have an excellent chance to win that series.

Given the above and the fact that South Alabama has six conference losses and Florida Atlantic has seven conference losses ... anything can happen. South Alabama gets FAU at home next weekend in a huge Sun Belt series. The Jags then get FIU on the road and close with Troy at home. Florida Atlantic obviously travels to Mobile next weekend and closes at home against FIU. These are tough matchups ... there are more losses to come for these clubs. Meanwhile, ASU and FIU square off next week.

If the Cajuns continue to take care of business, the other teams will continue to beat up on one another and allow the Cajuns the chance to move up.

Meanwhile, the Cajuns' RPI is now in at-large bid range. Just keep winning and everything will take care of itself.
