The Police Jury has become experts when dealing with hurricane disasters. But oil spoils? Not a chance.
The oil spill caused by the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon, which was drilling 50 miles off the coast of Venice, La., may find its way south of Vermilion Parish, depending on which way the winds blow over the next four days. Some meteorologists are predicting, based on the winds, that some of the oil from the spill could wash ashore along Vermilion Parish and possibly flow into the Vermilion Bay.
The oil spill is 80 miles long and 48 miles wide.
