HAMMOND — A 20-point performance by Bernette Tolston led a red-hot shooting effort by Louisiana’s women’s basketball squad here Tuesday night, as the Lady Cajuns rolled to a 57-43 win over Southeastern Louisiana.
The Lady Cajuns (1-0), winning their season opener for the first time since 2000 and for only the third time since 1992, extended a regular-season winning streak that now totals four games dating back to the final three contests of last season. The last time UL won four straight regular-season games was during the 1997-98 season.
Tolston hit on six of 11 three-pointers in the game, pacing the squad to a 10-of-18 team performance behind the arc. Half of the Cajuns’ field goals in the season-opening win were three-pointers.
Meanwhile, the Cajun defense held the Lady Lions (1-1) to a 25.9 shooting effort, as the hosts made only 15-of-58 shot attempts.
