Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers there Rosie. Indeed, you certainly can formulate an opinion, and most times, we see eye to eye on said opinions.. but Tulane is fielding a bunch of froshy's and sophty's. They're better than we are, plain and simple. You know, I'm glad the team has gone on a tear, but the truth is, we've been beating up on teams that we should be beating. When this team goes up against better competition, we struggle. I hope we keep the pace up, but last night was an indicator of where we are. A game with major post season implications, and we muster 1 run. Good teams don't allow that to happen.

Btw, when is the last time we fielded a single .400 hitter? Tulane has a few.

I agree, I pretty much said the same, but you didnt post a thing about anyone other than Traffica. If you said, we were behind batters all night, it would have been a valid argument.

Instead, along with the sentence fragments that dont help in conveying full discussion, you post the one inning that Tulane scored in, that being Traffica's. Your first post said, bullpen, second was Traffica's line and you failed to back up anything besides Chase falling behind in ONE INNING. If giving up 2 runs is a failure of a bullpen, then your a tough critic. We just couldnt afford those 2 runs tonight.

Try backing your point up with more than the one inning of trouble. Because that doesnt help your point of the bullpen being terrible. One occurrance is a fluke. I'm not denying that we fell behind batters, but I definitely dont know that for a fact. Im genuinely asking for more examples. It sounded like we pitched well, but if the final was completely deceiving, let us know.

I just didnt quite get your point from:

    Can you say bull pen.........
    or
Yes ours: Traffica in for Bulliard. Can't get behind the hitters. Gave up a walk on a 3-2 pitch, wild pitch to advance the runner, double on a 3-2 pitch RBI, walk on a 3-2 pitch, single on a 3-1 pitch, RBI. Exit Traffica.......

I'm not ruffled, they are a better hitting team than we are for sure. I don't think they pitch better than us though.

Our hitting is getting better though, it's much better than last year for sure. I think we will be fine going forward. Just my opinion.

    Foofoo and Ragin,

I do love your posts. They are usually well thought out and backed up by facts. However, I have to give this one to Foofoo, Tulane is a better team. I believe this is a .500 team, give or take, just like we have had for the last two years. We have set ourselves up so that we can only make a regional by winning the conference tournament, and we all know how well we play during the conference tournament .

My prediction for the rest of this year is that we finish with a 32-23 record and win 1 game in the conference tournament before getting bounced. Although the overall record would be an improvement over the last two years, it really woldn't be that big of an accomplishment since our schedule this year is very weak, and we should win more than we lose.

Hope I'm wrong, and if I am, I will admit it and eat crow.

The final was 2 -1? Domination? Home field advantage? Do good teams allow 2 runs?

    Let's not give up!

Comments from the Tulane forum. www.yogwf.com:

We won't play them for a few reasons...some TPS just mentioned.

    1) Umpiring- you can't get a strike called at their place, let alone a close call. We have been called for approximately 2,000 balks at their place in the last 10 years and about 20 in other road games. I got called for 2 balks in one inning there and hadn't been called for one either before or after that. When I asked why the umpire called the balk, he just said "you balked" and wouldn't give any other explanation.

    2) Our coaches don't exactly get along. There has also been a lot of bad blood between the players throughout the years. Lots of trash talk, brushbacks, and hard tags. I am frankly surprised there hasn't been a fight yet.

    3) Money- as TPS said, we make more in a home game with nobody there than we do going to play them at their place.

    4) The trip- I know we go to South Alabama now, but going on 2+ hour bus rides during the week really takes its toll on the players because they have to get up and go to class the next morning. Wednesday practices after Tuesday night road games are usually attrocious.

I will miss us playing against them with all of that said. They are one of those teams you love to hate and they give you plenty of reasons to do so, but they usually play pretty good baseball.

    or _
    Cook 19 K 15 balls
    Hubbell 8 K 11 bals
    Wascom 2 K 8 balls
    Bulliard 14 K 12 balls
    Traffica 13 K 19 balls
Griffen 11 K 3 balls........Bottom of the 8th. Gave up a single, Struck out 2 and pop up. 11 & 3 will do that for you.

    135 total pitches

Total: 67 K 68 balls (50% not good) I think Tulane went 75-25 strike ratio.

Is that enough example. Friend that's not pitching well. Give thanks that Tulane didn't hit well either.

The above is a post which would be accurate describing the situation from our perspective.

We don't get many calls in New Orleans.

They don't pay us enough on the guarantee to make the trip worth our while so we could make more in a home game against no one just from having another game on the season ticket list.

Our kids also have to go to class after a long day. I know this is the main excuse of Jones but he never brings up that his mid week home opponent is forced to do what he refuses to do.

The only thing I am not sure about is the relationship between the coaches.

They do play good baseball but the only folks on our side who will miss the game are our New Orleans alums as that is an opportunity for them to see their team. Fans who live here in Lafayette won't miss anything as it has been years since they have come to the Tigue.

In conclusion looks like we both see things the same way so it is no surprise the series is ending. Maybe we will see them in post season at some point.

Note that many of the posts in that thread were about our name. Those people need to learn that what we choose to call ourselves is much more important than what others choose to call us.

I know that a mid-week game with pitches being thrown by guys who will not see the mound on weekends in a 3 games series don't prove the best team---I left in the bot of the 7th and there is noway that Tulane hit the shots that we did----We need to get the crucial hit with men on ---but some were shots right at them and even to the warning track!!!!

Is this a recurring event (throwing so many balls)? How are we on the season? Lots of balls thrown or not, we gave up 2 runs. How on earth do we lead the conference in pitching by throwing so many balls? And not one of our pitchers is over a 5.00 ERA.

Maybe we threw a lot of balls, or maybe we just werent getting close calls all night. I mean our pitching is just as good on a whole as Tulane, yet they get 75% strikes called. Smells a little fishy. Our pitching was not our main problem vs Tulane. There's always room for improvement, that's why more perfect games arent thrown. You are being extremely harsh by saying our pitching was not at the very least, decent to good. You got a problem with giving up 2 flippin runs, then I dont know what to tell you. Its an extremely pessimistic/cynical viewpoint.

Our pitching and defense gave up only TWO FREAKIN RUNS and you're complaining about pitching? These are the kinds of posts I usually ignote... simply attributing it to someone who just doesn't know better.

I'll go out on a limb and say that pitching was not the issue.
